Our Development
The Spinning Top Press publishing house was founded in 2012 with a clear vision: to realize literary works and creative publications with the highest craftsmanship. In the early years, we focused on fiction debuts and poetry volumes, which were well received by critics. The decision to also include non-fiction books and experimental formats in our program proved to be a turning point.
Today, the publishing house boasts over 200 published titles, including several award-winning works. Our team has grown from three to fifteen employees, and we collaborate with a network of more than fifty authors. The introduction of our own editorial series for young voices laid the foundation for sustainable support of emerging talent.
2012Founding and First Publications
With starting capital of 15,000 euros and a small team, we began in a converted apartment. The first title, a poetry collection by Alexandra Kraft, reached a print run of 800 copies and was reviewed in several literary magazines.
2015Program Expansion
The inclusion of non-fiction books and essay collections led to a doubling of annual new releases. A milestone was the publication of "City of Stones," which was presented at the Leipzig Book Fair and saw a second edition.
2018Own Editorial Series
With the series "Voices of Tomorrow," we created a permanent format for emerging authors. Within three years, 18 debuts were published, three of which were nominated for the German Book Prize.
2021Digitalization and New Formats
The introduction of a digital distribution channel and the production of audiobooks opened up new markets. Revenue increased by 40 percent, and we were able to expand our reach within the German-speaking region.
2024Current Projects and Outlook
We are currently working on a multi-volume anthology of contemporary Austrian literature and planning to open a small event space in Vienna. Collaboration with international publishers is being expanded.
